Are You Ready for Guitar Hero III?

16 10 2007

Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock is slated to be released on 10.28.07 which is in a mere 12 days. While I was already leaning towards Guitar Hero III instead of Rock Band, my decision was made final when Rock Band confirmed that only the full bundles would be available until early 2008. From a BBPS interview with one of the PR members from Harmonix :

When Rock Band ships this November it will only be available in one flavor, bundled. Done. Confirmed. When is Harmonix looking to ship the separate components? Early 2008 is the general goal, so EB/GameStop’s leak was correct.

I never had any interest in playing the drums on that game, nor did I ever have any interest in subjecting my friends to the unbearable torture that is my tone deaf singing. Since my desire is focused on fretting hard and fast all night long, I would not consider purchasing the drum set or microphone for Rock Band. Now that it will only be available in a big bundle at launch (and an undetermined length of time after), I have lost what little interest I initially had in it. Guitar Hero III has always been a must have and now I can focus solely on that game and give it the attention it deserves.

So now that we have less than two weeks before the release of GH3, it’s time to focus. Are you ready?

First, I need to crack down and finish my Expert Career on GH2. I have been stuck on the 7th category of that set list for a handful of months now and haven’t actively worked on it in quite some time. I am on “Furious Fretwork” and have 11 songs total that I need to clear on that difficulty level. I still play GH2 at least a few times a week but I play my favorite songs and simply try to beat my high scores. It’s time to buckle down and get that Expert Career completed. Can I do it? I’m really not too sure; those last songs are a bitch. I’ll certainly give it my best effort though.

Speaking of songs, what do you think of GH3’s soundtrack?

I am pleased with the amount and variety of songs they are offering. There are lots of great tracks in there. I should start warming up my fingers now for some serious shredding. Thumb wars anyone? Actually with all the flipping off of randoms that I do when I play Halo 3, my fingers should be plenty strong already.

Back to getting prepared, have you decked out your plain white guitar controller yet? If you didn’t purchase one of the cool skins I recently found, don’t fret. (See what I did there? I rock. Oh look, I did it again!) I found an awesome alternative for you that is for sale on eBay right now.

ebay custom painted guitar controller

The auction for this custom painted (Xbox 360) guitar controller ends on Oct-20-07 at 16:18:16 PDT and the starting bid is $70 (it comes with the game as well). I recently bid on a beautiful custom painted pink guitar but forgot to check it before the auction ended and was outbid (cries softly). Speaking of which, I should add painting my guitar to my list of things to do before GH3 releases. Pink guitar shaped controllers ftw!

So my list of things to do before GH3 releases include completing my Expert Career on GH2 and painting my guitar controller. I didn’t do so well on my pre-Halo 3 goals (and by not do so well I mean I failed miserably). Hopefully my past is not an indicator of my future. Anything you need to get done before GH3?

I am in the same boat. I have about little over half of the expert mode completed. I have been too busy lately to play GH2. I like the songlist of GH3, seems to have more modern rock bands and of course, my favorite band! :)

Some of those song sound really good - Knights of Cydonia is pretty epic, lol, and they’ve got plenty of other great bands and songs in there.

As soon as I saw “Kool Thing” by Sonic Youth on the playlist it pretty much confirmed the fact that I needed to have this.

I don’t know a single song listed in this game.

I may have heard them, but I don’t recognize the names.

I did purchase guitar hero II, and my feelings were mixed about the game.

Unfortunately for me, I’m not much of a rock fan. so the songs were kinda painful.

I may get this game some time, but not anytime soon.

Have fun with Guitar Hero III : )

But Rock Band will have the Grateful Dead, how sweet will that be? :D

I think my wife would kill me if My Name is Jonas was on Rock Band. I sang that song really loud in the car on my 21st b-day and I don’t think she wants to hear that again after my performance, lol.

Good thing its on Guitar Hero instead for her sake. :P
