On Sunday I will be picking up my Official Halo 3 360. I missed out on the first Halo Xbox and dont want to miss this one. I like customizing my console, just not at the cost of the warranty. I think M$ did a great job in designing the official console and I will be happy to display in under my TV.

I very much agree that the "dressing it up" factor is more of a fun benefit rather than a selling feature. For those people that like to do that, it is neat to have so many options for it. It certainly should be nowhere on the radar when deciding what game system to purchase however.

It is my understanding that a replacement case would void the warranty, but I don't want to be quoted on that. That is why I encouraged people to check their warranty. I do know that when I had a 360 red ring on me and I had decorated the top plate, I asked to take it off so I could save it for my next one and I was told removing that plate voids the warranty. Since you have to take it off for a replacement case, I am guessing it does in fact make your warranty null and void. Again, I encourage anybody considering buying a replacement case to check the fine print carefully.

I must admit, though that is interesting to look at for a short while, I find the faceplates and cases to surround the system such a gimmick. And below me is a mention of controller plates. iIt all seems so unnecessary.

Sure, I can't get around the fact that the plate you have there is much slicker than the normal white defualt case. But for 45-60 bucks, there could be no way.

I remember back when Microsoft was boasting about the incredible features of the 360. They specifically mentioned faceplates, and went on (at E3 in particular) how you can customize your system in any way.

People must have a satsifaction with personalizing their equipment, and essentially, there is no problem in doing so.

It is just my opinion that faceplates should not be marketed as a "next gen" feature. And out of curiousity, how does that effect the warranty, your plate covering the whole of the system?

I want to make a quick note. Microsoft had a great E3 overall, but ending the conference with a special edition Halo 3 console is simply ludicrous at an attempt at boosting sales. Not only is the system rather unappealing, but anyone who would be even remotely interested in getting that system would have to be really into Halo 3, and probably already own a 360.

Sales of the system are slowly flatlining. The solution is not an unattractive design for the new system.
