How to Turn Your Xbox 360 Into a Special Halo Edition Original Xbox

As Halo 3 quickly approaches, I have found myself thinking fondly of the Halo Special-Edition Xbox. Only 200,000 of those beautiful green consoles were made and they are still a wondrous site to behold.

As everybody knows, Microsoft is doing an Xbox 360 Halo 3 Special Edition Console to celebrate the release of one of the most anticipated games of the year. I personally find it lacking in the looks department. I really don’t like the brassy orange that complements the green, and actually I don’t care for any aspect of it. It leaves a lot to be desired visually.

That is why I was positively ecstatic when I stumbled upon this Xbox 360 Crystal Green Case at DecalGirl. It is an entire replacement case that will give your Xbox 360 that original Halo special edition Xbox feel. Not only is it awesome to look at but it is currently on sale for $44.99 (down from $59.99). This is by far the most attractive Halo themed 360 I have ever laid eyes on. It beats any skin hands down. The only 360 I have seen better than this one is of course my own but my 360 is more on the cutesy side while the clear green replacement case is on the completely and utterly bad ass side.

Xbox 360 Crystal Green Case

The Xbox 360 Crystal Green Case, for $44.99 includes :

  • a new crystal green faceplate
  • a crystal green replacement case
  • two special tools to allow easy dissasembly
  • detailed step-by-step instructions

It can be purchased here. Remember to check your warranty to see if a replacement case voids it. Something this awesome just may be worth it though.

I want that. Then my old xbox would match my new one. I wonder if they’ll put out new controller cases too… *crosses fingers*

I’ve been looking at these, and certain sites will even add custom decals to the case before shipping it to you. My only problem is the potential unavailability of these cases for new Premium / Elite owners who have that HDMI i/o port… particularly if we happen to be using it.

“Remember the check your warranty to see if a replacement case voids it.’

You may want to tidy up that sentence a touch.

I believe with the extension on repairs all 360s are still under warranty unless you have already done something that voids it.

  4. Yea, I don’t like the Halo 3 special edition colors. Orange and puke green/brown. Ick.

But that crystal green case… ohhh man that is sexy!

Thank you swooshdave. When I went in to fix that, I actually found another mistake as well. I clearly didn’t have enough coffee this morning. I am going to fire my coffee boy. Wait, I don’t have a coffee boy. There’s my problem right there. I am going to hire a coffee boy.

Good point JonEthan. Definitely another thing to check before making this purchase.

And Miss Zoomy, I LOVE this one too! That just looks SO nice. I really want this.

  7. The Xbox 360 Crystal Green case REALLY does not look that good at all. The see-throughness of it is very tacky and it lacks any actual relation to the Halo Universe, making it heavily watered down. The OFFICIAL Xbox 360 Halo 3 Special Edition Console is much better in this respect and looks great. The Green and Gold works great to compliment the Spartan Armour and looks very classy.

Also, I hate how the picture shows the Xbox 360 Crystal Case WITHOUT the Xbox 360 Hard Drive attached. Why? Because you’re trying to hide the fact that it doesn’t match at all. In fact, the Xbox 360 Crystal Green Case with the Black/Silver Xbox 360 Hard Drive would look absolutely ridiculous in your living room.

The hell with this case, get the Official one.

  8. I kind of prefer the official one honestly. The picture you linked is cool, but the original X-Box just looks cheesy, like those old clear N64 ones.

I hope this case gets a lot of attention, maybe for an official Halo Wars themed 360? =p

I think it’s a neat option, although voiding the warranty is a concern obviously. I like the clear cases, although I don’t think some of the commenters feel the same way (Actually, that reminds me, I need to go see if Clan ANGER has any spots open). LOL … To each their own! Just another option out there in the vast sea of choices to customize your 360.

    hahaha cute.

personally, i don’t like blinging out my360, unless it has some reference to silvercube(i.e. my halo2 avatar, gametag name, favorite colors, etc.)
I’m not much of the color green.
    I love sky blue/cobalt colors : )
13 days till my launch party at gamestop!! ^_^

  13. I have the Halo edition of the original XBox and the only reason I would want to get the 360 Halo edition is to complete the Halo set. Besides, why would I want to spend that much on the Halo edition when I could get the Elite for $50 more? Once I get the cash I’ll get the Elite. Yeah I know, I’ll be missin out on Halo 3 when it gets released. >.<

Sure, I can’t get around the fact that the plate you have there is much slicker than the normal white defualt case. But for 45-60 bucks, there could be no way.

I remember back when Microsoft was boasting about the incredible features of the 360. They specifically mentioned faceplates, and went on (at E3 in particular) how you can customize your system in any way.

People must have a satsifaction with personalizing their equipment, and essentially, there is no problem in doing so.

It is just my opinion that faceplates should not be marketed as a “next gen” feature. And out of curiousity, how does that effect the warranty, your plate covering the whole of the system?

I want to make a quick note. Microsoft had a great E3 overall, but ending the conference with a special edition Halo 3 console is simply ludicrous at an attempt at boosting sales. Not only is the system rather unappealing, but anyone who would be even remotely interested in getting that system would have to be really into Halo 3, and probably already own a 360.

Sales of the system are slowly flatlining. The solution is not an unattractive design for the new system.

I very much agree that the “dressing it up” factor is more of a fun benefit rather than a selling feature. For those people that like to do that, it is neat to have so many options for it. It certainly should be nowhere on the radar when deciding what game system to purchase however.

It is my understanding that a replacement case would void the warranty, but I don’t want to be quoted on that. That is why I encouraged people to check their warranty. I do know that when I had a 360 red ring on me and I had decorated the top plate, I asked to take it off so I could save it for my next one and I was told removing that plate voids the warranty. Since you have to take it off for a replacement case, I am guessing it does in fact make your warranty null and void. Again, I encourage anybody considering buying a replacement case to check the fine print carefully.

  16. On Sunday I will be picking up my Official Halo 3 360. I missed out on the first Halo Xbox and dont want to miss this one. I like customizing my console, just not at the cost of the warranty. I think M$ did a great job in designing the official console and I will be happy to display in under my TV.
