The Lavishness of Everything Halo

3 09 2007

Sweet Ms. Tex, who was inspired by an article written by Xerxdeej about how much Halo is costing you per hour, decided to tally how much she has spent on the same game since its release (her total ended up being $2,278.17). She ended the article asking how much everybody else has spent on it as well. I decided to tally up my own lavish expenses on the awesomeness that is Halo.

I would like everybody to know that I am putting my entire marriage at risk by totaling up my various figures of everything Halo related. I am scared to think about the repercussions once my husband sees a dollar amount of what this game has cost us. Perhaps I will be lonely in the near future. I suppose I should start thinking about how I am going to word my singles ad. I like walking on the sandy beaches of Zanzibar, cudding in the warmth of the fire on Elongation, picnicking amongst the rolling hills of Coagulation, trekking through the fluffy snow on the top of Containment, and frolicking in the water surrounding the island of Relic. Wow, I just may have realized the full extent of my geekiness with that sentence. Go me!

On to my itemized list of Halo related expenses. Everything will be rounded to the nearest dollar. I will include all hardware required to play the game. I will not include various purchases made for the sake of general gaming (such as tvs, surround sound, etc).

When I sat down to tally everything up, I considered doing an all video game related expenses tally next. I think after seeing that total I will just call it good. Do you dare to figure out how much you have spent on anything and everything Halo related?

Since we don’t have access to any kind of High Speed intarweb, we are minus the cost of LIVE. That’s also not counting the hundreds of thousands of millions of dollars spent on Ho7Pock37s and B33r consumed while commencing the 0wn3r4g3.

That’s ALSO not counting the cost of several games keeping us occupied (Gears, Viva Pinata, Armored Core 4, Various Clancy games, etc) while waiting for our next fix from Bungie… Oh yeah, and the hundreds of (no exaggeration) hours spent downloading the Hi-Res teasers of H3 related goodness on a 21.6K dialup connection.

Okay… that’s my husband’s grand total… but it’s no where near yours… you 0wnz us… and I think I might love you… awwww!!!!(!!ONE!!!&!! Yes… it’s true…

Priceless indeed.

@ Silvercube - I didn’t realize you still had multiple accounts! Crazy. I just have my one and only and I don’t have plans to make any secondaries. Thinking about how much gaming has cost over my lifetime is a scary prospect. Perhaps one day I will tally for next gen consoles only, we’ll see.

@ yunahalo - I must know more about these entries : Orange Spraypaint for the ‘LoveHandle V 0.1′ Controller- $5, Nail Polish and Stickers for ‘Super Deluxe Girl Controller- $8, and Metallic Paint/Glitter for 360 Girl Controller- $10. If you can show me some pics of these lovely creations, I just may love you too!

@ Zoomy - I’m not sure I knew your 360 was a gift! How awesome. You have lots of gear in there as well. Did you like the Halo soda?

@ Josh - You are new to Xbox Live? How has your experience been so far?

All of our totals are pretty decent. I guess you could say we are a tad bit passionate about this game, yes? :)

silvercube (13:24:29) :

@ angel- Yep, I’ve been through a few-
a silverfirefly, (long dead)
CB IceCream, (i wish i could revive this one)
SilveReloaded,
and now CB Firefly.
CB Firefly is a gold account, while SilveReloaded is silver.
I’m probably going to make CB Firefly silver as well in a few weeks (It’s all about Halo-whether or not the clans will be implemented, etc.)
How do you fit 100 people on one gamertag? Because I couldn’t.

There ya go! Oh, I bought the Halo 3 soda too, and it was yummy and the bottle is now hanging out with my Arrogant Bastard bottles, Jesus candle, gnome and my homemade Dewey from Aqua Teen.

Jimmy Jangles (23:42:30) :

Perhaps if you divide that by the number of halo matchmaking games, custom matches and campaign runs you have done you could get a cost per game ratio ……

@ Angel

Yeah, I’m pretty new, relatively, Around 5/6 months in total, not including the 2 months of bricked 360 :@

So far, it has been abusive, frustrating, insulting, but fun, hilarious and awesome at the same time, except for the week where it was just the Friends and Family people on the Beta. That was gaming heaven: 95% of the players where mature and friendly, and the games where so much fun….when the Crackdown crowd arrived, it was a slightly different story….but still awesome.

Josh, I agree with every comment you just made. Excellent observations!
