Five Neckties for the Dressed Up Gamer
August 8, 2007 8 Comments
I am way into gamer gear. Nothing makes me happier than expressing my complete and utter geekiness through my fashion. I realized lately that I focus primarily on female gamers with most of the accessories I write about (like my recent finds of grenade and gun earrings for those of us that enjoy the FPS genre). So I decided to focus a bit on the male gamers for all of two seconds.
Unfortunately there are times you have to dress up. We all know you don’t want to but it simply can’t be avoided 100% of the time. Is your college buddy getting married? Time to bust out the nice threads. Does your girlfriend want you to take her out for a fancy dinner? Better choose something equally fancy to wear. Are you meeting her parents for the first time and want to make a good first impression? Get digging in that closet for something classy. Sometimes you will have to put on a necktie, that is just the way it is. You can still bust out your gamer gear though with these ties I found for you. Here are the most subtle but cool ties I could find that still hint towards your gaming awesomeness.
AW SHOOT – revolver gun screen printed necktie

Purchase here : Toybreaker’s Shop
Price : $30
Note : This one is classy between the half-toned antique revolver image and the color selection choices. You should be able to pull this off in most occasions quite easily. I don’t see this one lasting long so if you are debating picking it up, I recommend acting quickly.
Ninja Necktie

Purchase here : Exboyfriend’s Shop
Price : $20
Note : This one reminds me of the ninja Halo avatar. If you use that avatar while playing, I am pretty sure this is a must have.
Skull and Crossbones Tie Lime Green and Black

Purchase here : Hotpinkzebra’s Shop
Price : $18.95
Note : This one is rather loud and wouldn’t be appropriate in all situations. However, the right person could probably pull it off.
Bombs Away tie – silkscreened necktie exploding lovenotes

Purchase here : Toybreaker’s Shop
Price : $30
Note : I love this one, especially in the pink (don’t worry, it’s available in other colors as well). This would be perfect to wear when you take your significant other out for Valentine’s Day or some other romantic occasion.
The ThinkGeek 8-bit Tie

Purchase here : ThinkGeek
Price : $19.99
Note : I see this being a great tie to wear to work in an office job. Old school retro gamers would get the reference right away. It would also probably work well for a big event as it would be a great conversation starter.
See, you can still get your video game geek on even in the fancier occasions. Now go buy yourself a nice gamer tie and wear it proudly.

Okay I am sold on the 8-Bit tie, that is just to cool. Now if only I had a suit to wear it with. :-P

i thought i was tripping, then i realised that pseudo-NES tie actually did look like that. a pair of pants in the same fashion would not got a miss. maybe Mario could do his own vintage range…
That 8 bit tie was just an April Fool’s gag that got some great feedback.
I wonder if they’ve finished making it yet… I was ‘posed to get an e-mail when they did.
the pink bombs away tie gets my vote XD
Im not much of a tie person, but they would be interesting if i was playing dress-up :p
Thanks for trying to include guys fashion in your blog, but don’t forget that girls can occasionally wear ties too! Especially the pink ones… I’m not a big fan of guys+pink…
I saw the 8-bit tie as soon as Think-Geek put them up for sale and thought it was amazing! It really does look like the old mario should wear it (If only it came in red!). I guess you could say I’m a huge fan of think-geek, and it’s a good thing I’m not rolling in cash, or I’d own their whole catalog! (the last thing I bought was their titanium spork, lol)
I’m looking forward to more gamer fashion!

Aaahhh crap, you mean you want me to cover male’s accessories more? You guys are so high maintenance!!
(I wore a few ties back when I was in high school doing debate and drama competitions and whatnot, but haven’t since then.)
8-bit, more like 7.
