A Reminder of the Halo 2 Control Buttons

Have you been living and breathing the Halo 3 Beta? If so, you are a mighty lucky person. I hope you are enjoying the amazing experience. I regret to be the person to remind you that this wonderful gift we have temporarily been given will be taken back Sunday, 6/10, at 11:59 PM PDT. That gives you six more days to soak in that beta goodness. Get going. When that time is over, come back and read this. You will need it.

I dipped back into Halo 2 multiplayer matchmaking last night. I miss my friends that are not playing in the beta and I desperately needed some time with them. So the first game comes up, Team Slayer on Ivory Tower. I’m pumped. I’m ready. Bring it! Game starts and I spawn by a plasma rifle. Instincts take over and I immediately pick up the dual wield and get an easy kill. Then I sit there. I need to reload but I can’t remember how to do it. I go to ask my teammates but the d-pad doesn’t work for team chat. Now I can’t even communicate with my team. I take a lucky guess and manage to reload my guns. Only took me about 30 seconds. Yay me.

So I am off and going again. I go to back up a buddy who is in the middle of a battle. He dies and I finish off the other person. I then realize my teammate dropped the sword. I stand on top of it and have another brainfart. I can’t figure out how to pick it up! I go through all the buttons and end up doing a variety of things like dropping my dual wield and even hitting the dashboard. Thankfully I backed out of the dashboard without accidentally quitting the game. So I am still sitting there trying to pick up the sword. My teammate respawns, makes his way back over to his dead body where I am still standing, picks the sword back up, and races along on his way. He did all of that and I still hadn’t figured out to to pick the damn thing up. Later he told me he thought I was just saving it for him. Yeah, let’s go with that.

Apparently I need a button refresher. Do you? You will by Sunday. I guarantee it.

Left Thumbstick Up = move forward
Left Thumbstick Down = move backward
Left Thumbstick Left or Right = strafe left or right
Left Thumbstick Button = crouch
Right Thumbstick Up = aim up
Right Thumbstick Down = aim down
Right Thumbstick Left or Right = rotate left or right
Right Thumbstick Button = zoom scope
Start Button = pause game, settings
Back Button = score
D-Pad = move through menus
A Button = jump
B Button = melee attack
X Button = reload, action
Y Button = switch weapons
Right Bumper = swap grenades
Left Bumper = team chat
Right Trigger = fire weapon
Left Trigger = throw grenade, e-brake, boost

DUAL WIELDING

Y Button = dual wield
Right Trigger = fire right weapon
Left Trigger = fire left weapon

The most important information to remember?

• Team chat is left bumper.
• Switch grenades is right bumper.
• Reload is the X button.
