Halo 3 Beta, Part 5 – The Importance of Color Coordination

If you know me at all, you know about my fondness of changing my Spartan’s colors and the importance I place on coordinating the accent colors with the main colors. Really, is there anything more important than matching and looking good? That’s what I thought. I have been focusing in this issue for several months now. In the Bungie Weekly Update from 10/13/2006, I was fortunate to have some of my submitted questions get answered. The color related one :

Will there be any new color options for your Spartan/Elite in Halo 3? (cough *pretty pastel colors please* cough.) How can I get KP to play with me more, even though I tend to betray him on a somewhat frequent basis?

Of course. Every element of the game will be changed or improved upon. We’re not talking about specifics yet, but there will be new stuff to talk about later. I don’t think you’re betraying him so much as KP am suicide total. [Sadly true, I played ten games with her last night just to dispell this, but I killed myself more times than she betrayed me... I've got issues with jumping off of Lockout. -KP]

In the Halo 3 Beta, they offer us more colors to choose from for our characters than they did in Halo 2. That is nothing but good news. Take for instance the gold they have in H2. Much too loud and gaudy for my tastes even though I am a big fan of yellow. I just prefer my colors to be more light and on the pastel side. The various shades of yellow they offer in the Beta are simply beautiful. But here is the best news concerning future color options.

From the Halo 3 Beta: Appearance and Identity article on Bungie.net :

As with Halo 2, the Halo 3 Public Beta allows you to customize your armor and emblem colors and appearance. In the shipping game, we’ll give you a lot more control over your appearance, but for now, we have implemented a simpler and easier to use color and emblem selection screen.

Look at what I underlined. LOOK AT WHAT I UNDERLINED! I can’t wait to see what they offer us in the final game. I am in love with the color system that Chromehounds gives us. That game has a basic set of colors to customize your mech. However, they have a system where you can alter all of the colors by adjusting the tones within it to make whatever shade you want. It is amazing. Perhaps we will get a color system like that with Halo 3? I can dream.

Another neat feature when customizing your Spartan in the Halo 3 Beta is having the ability to not only zoom in and out but also to completely rotate your character so you can view him from any angle. You can get a closeup of the avatar on your arm, you can look at him from behind, you can zoom all the way out and get a nice overall feel of your color scheme. Just amazing.

My favorite new color on their template? The beautiful chocolate brown. The color is so rich it almost has deep burgundy undertones. It looks amazing with a light pink accent. *drools

Do they have some nice badass Silver?

I hope the Gold looks more like Gold…

  2. Stuicide says:

I love gaming with angel as she changes her emblem between every match and you can watch it as it changes.

    It’s art.

  3. So far I really like the extra options they’ve given us. I can’t wait to see what the final version yields.

  4. bsangel says:

I know. I wonder what else they will be giving us. More color options? A color system where we can make any color we like? More avatars to choose from? *shivers from excitement

  5. Ray says:

That was a very enjoyable read… I’ve been wondering some of the same things myself, but I’m unable to participate in the beta.
I look forward to reading more about the H3 Beta from you!

You have no idea, one night after Czar changed his phoenix shield to pink, the next day I played with him I instituted a new rule for our team. Fabulous colors were a requirement. We went undefeated the entire night because of it. Check out my icon at my Halo 3 stats. http://www.bungie.net/Stats/PlayerStatsHalo3.aspx?player=NJAsmodeus

The names for all the colors are so “manly” it cracks me up. Isn’t my Sapphire fab?

  7. Fezzer says:

You can rotate your spartan around and zoom in and out???

    I had no idea!

And yes, I think all the new color options are fantastic! Are there any new avatars? I didn’t notice since I have always used the same one.

  8. bsangel says:

I don’t know for sure on the avatars. I am assuming they will add some when the game ships because aren’t they doing a design contest right now? Hhhmmm, … I should research that.

Now go spin your Master Chief around! It’s way cool.

  9. Excardon says:

I’m just sad they took out some of the backgrounds. Since the “Diagional Slice” is missing, I can’t use my Halo 2 symbol. I had to make some changes.

    :(
